Summer is back! And so are the summer activities!

Very fun trail with Iron Rungs and steep sections with sharp drop offs. Be aware the trail is closed for a portion of time during Perigriene Falcon nesting season. Caution should be taken on this trail. Slippery when wet!





7/31/09

07-23-09, Beech Mountain

This scenic hike features stone chairs, a fire tower, and magnificent views. We’ll ascend via the picturesque and wooded South Ridge and Valley Trails. There will be views of Long Pond during the descent. This is a moderate hike of approx. 3.5 miles.
We’ll be using the parking lot at the end of Beech Mountain Road in Southwest Harbor.

07-09-09, Parkman and Bald Mountains

This is a very scenic hike in a quiet part of the park. It is a moderate/difficult
hike of 3.3 miles; there are some steep sections. Use the Norumbega parking lot (not the one labeled Parkman); it is just north of Upper Hadlock Pond on Route 198.

6-25-09, Bar Island

Hiking with Nicole instead of spending the evening in the lab!

Bar Island - walk there from the foot of Bridge Street in downtown Bar Harbor. At low tide, the island is accessible by foot or by an all terrain type vehicle across a natural gravel land bridge. Visiting there provides a spectacular view of Mount Desert Island with Bar Harbor in the foreground as shown in some of the pictures.

6-20-09, Great Head Trail

Hiking with Brian on a foggy, rainy day!

The 1.4 mile (2.2 km) Great Head Trail is rated as “moderate” and loops around the perimeter of the small peninsula called Great Head located on the east side of Sand Beach.
